On Evil Sides Stamp by Spikytastic On Evil Sides Stamp by Spikytastic
How many people have you seen that have a character, usually their fursona or avatar character, that has a SUPER POWERED EEEVIL SIDE?
Bonus points if "Animal I Have Become" by Three Days Grace or "Monster" by Skillet is one of their theme songs. Super bonus if both are!

Okay, you know what?
I'm not saying it's inherently bad.
But it's old. It's not original. It's not interesting.
It also demonstrates that you want your character to be EEEEEEEVIL without them having to take responsibility for it.
And it says, to me, splitting-- an inability to see good and and bad as parts of a coherent whole.

Either make the character interesting -- or at least SOMETHING that isn't just "cursed/a demon or monster living inside them/whateverthefuck", or knock it off, because if I see one more fuckin' wolf OC (and call it a jackal or a dragon or a whatever the hell you want, because it's still a fuckin' wolf) that has a superpowered evil side that's black and red and is the result of some demon or something living inside it, I am going to start bashing some fuckin' skulls.

Besides, Tsunami Bomb's 'The Invasion From Within' is a way better song for that sort of thing.

My character has a lot of different personalities. But one is sarcastic and enjoys seeing people suffer o no, it's an unoriginal character made when I was 10. Shame on me.

Oh well.

To be honest, i hate edgy ocs but i tried to create a evil side that makes sense. Instead of having red and black demon wings all over the place i gave her alooott of crystals almost all over her body, and she only becomes this either in extreme fear or becoming infected with something.

I have something sorta like that, I have a pony Oc, and a wolf Fursauna.

Angelpaw (the wolf)- is Dragonoid, I honestly had her just a normal wolf, until someone I rped with told me angelpaw was that 'breed'. so I played along. Now she can apparently turn into a dragon and can kill with her glance. her eyes turn black and if she looks into others' eye's she can break bones and so on. Though she has full control and is completely aware of what she is doing. Not evil, she is actually quite cheery. Just serious and destructive when needed.

Execution ( the pony)- Psychopathy,  though in rp she tends to be fighting it and acts like she has no control, but my and her view of it is just an act for she knows what she is doing 100% and does it on purpose o.o more or less I don't count them as evil and I don't try to make it so they don't take responsibility.

But I can't say I'm not guilty sometimes XD

I think, the best characters in RP are the ones without any freaking mental illnesses. You can be awesome without suffering from "depressioninsanitybadevil-itis".

The happy characters are the best.

i have a wolf character who has an evil said, but at least he's not red and black. I get so annoyed with red and black wolves. I tried to make the way he gained his evil side more interesting, and that he has a way of sealing it up. I still need to think of a good plot so that it is more developed than what I currently have.

The problem with cliched concepts is that it makes it hard for well-meaning writers to use them.

Or rather, I'd like to use this concept, but don't want to be accused of using a cliche.

Maybe something like a super-powered evil side created by a corrupting force, or demons who gains a human side or someone with a feral side that's not so much evil as "runs on animal instincts".

I dunno, something that plays with the Trope a bit...

I have couple characters like that, I suppose... but it's like two, one of them is possessed but completely aware of what she is doing (the whole thing is intended as a nightmare sequence); and the other has two sides to his personality the 'good' one and the 'evil' one, but when he's the 'good' side he can't remember what he did when he was the 'evil' side and vice versa.

I, unfortunately, have fallen victim with this cliché.

However, I think I constitute in the "making it more interesting" factor. I actually made up my own demon forms, based on other animals, not just an EEEEVIL wolf and that's it. I EVEN MADE MY OWN CLASSIFICATIONS FOR PEOPLE.

I'm guilty of using a wolf, though. >w< It's really huge though, and has a ton of tails, but it's still a wolf. D:

Anyways, yes. I'm sick of seeing all those super overused "demon forms" that are just mainly black wolves with glowy red eyes. It makes me sad. D:

You can do a lot with possessed/cursed characters. They could have an angel living inside them instead of a vicious monster (or they could at least get over the fact that they're possessed by a demon and stop wallowing in self-pity and angst), but I guess that isn't ~dark~ and ~edgy~ enough.

Yeah, I cant tell you how freaking tired I get of that shit. For some reason alot of people on here think EEEEEEVIL is a cool thing. I strongly disagree. If the character has a good story and interesting design, then we might have something. But when we have a all black wolf with red eyes and a history that suck ass and goes something along the lines of "mom and dad died, 'insertname' went insane, killed a pack, and now is the sorce of all evil." how many times have we seen that?

Plus its these characters that make the song Animal I Have Become seem so cheap.
Im going to stop ranting now. Made me feel better.

Amen.
I make an effort not to make Jekyll-and-Hyde type characters. When writing up descriptions I always make sure that my character is not drop-dead gorgeous and perfect to the bone, because everybody with a personality has flaws and strengths. They're one, unique character.
I hate it when people have some so-called demonic spawn who's fighting the evil in their blood. T__T

I have a character who seems to act a little crazy sometimes, but usually seems normal. But that's just because of his mental/emotional state, not anything supernatural (not sure if that seems relevent to characters with "eeeevil sides" or not, but...).

I have a split personality. |D

What may appear to be an "eeeeeevil super villain omg side to my fursona" really isn't. I just have two fursonas- each a personification of the sides to my personality.

Thank goodness the dog who symbolizes my more serious side isn't black/red.

:'D

I think I'm safely out of the "evil demon alter ego" category.

Yandere and yangire hey, it's better than saying "nice outside, batshit crazy inside". That, and TVTropes ruined my life., I personally wouldn't be liable to count as much, because generally, they're not "supernatural" and don't involve "OH BAW I HAVE AN EEEEEVIL SIDE!" and are generally a more coherent person/personality.

Vampire who wants to be human? (Vampire species feeds off not only the blood of their victims, but also the pain >.> So his desire to be human is understandable, at least ^^; And he wasn't even bitten; he was 'gifted' by a demon who fell in love with him. The vampire's struggle to get revenge on the demon, and become human again is a major plot point in his story-line). Safe or needs work?

I wouldn't mind cliches found in characters so much if they were done in different ways, with a new twist. But they're done the same way over and over, not to mention the fact that something like this, the "evil side," usually has no relevance to the plot of a story. It's just there so we feel bad for that OC or we consider them 'badass' because they're split into two people, or something like that. Lame.

I don't mind the idea in itself, really-- I'm working on trying to make it work in a non-cliche and plot-relevant way. It's hard going, but it's satisfying to try, at least.

But you're absolutely right-- most of the time it's just to gain sympathy or to let them do "BADASSSSSSS" and evil things without having to take responsibility for it.

If I had a dollar for every time I saw the exact same thing tread over the exact same way...

Had one of those when I was 14.
Cut it out 3 months later and spent my effort making an evolved elemental wheel.
Fun stuff, do you know how difficult it is to figure out a "subelement" for Fire?

Regardless, let me sum it up as such:
True stamp is true. :+fav:
