You've seen it. People who parade around the fact that they don't draw fanart like it makes them a far better artist than the unoriginal plebians who can only draw fan-art.
Because art like this is so necessarily inhernetly worse and lacking in skill and creativity than your special snowflake OCs because they dared to put time, effort, talent, and skill into a piece of that dirty fanart.
As we all know, fanart, you don't need to have any skill at all to draw, it just vomits forth into photoshop or onto paper unbidden, and doesn't take work at all.
Check out the Popular in the Last 24 Hours page sometime. While there is fanart, try seeing how much is original subject.
And stop bitching about how you're unpopular just because you don't draw Kingdom Hearts.
Is fanart more likely to get views? Sure. But people will pay attention to what they like. Maybe your original stuff isn't as great as you seem to think, because it's the people who bitch about "I DON'T DRAW FANART!!!" that seem to have an over-inflated view of how great their art is.
Art is not better or worse because it is fan-art or original. It is the merit of the art itself that makes it better or worse, and the reason you're not popular isn't because you don't draw fanart.
